Alain Robert, known as the "French Spiderman," is a free-solo urban climber who has scaled nearly 100 iconic structures worldwide using only chalk and climbing shoes—typically without ropes, harnesses, or permits. His climbs include the Petronas Twin Towers, Taipei 101, the Sears Tower, the Eiffel Tower, and the Sydney Opera House.
Robert originally feared heights as a child, overcoming his phobia at age 11 by climbing seven stories to enter his locked family apartment. Across decades of illegal "buildering," he has been arrested over 170 times and estimates past falls have left him roughly 66% disabled.
Despite his physical toll and age, Robert continues to climb, even scaling a Parisian skyscraper in his 60s as a political protest. He holds the Guinness World Record for the most buildings climbed unassisted, embodying an extraordinary commitment to extreme solo climbing.
