Viral social media posts are spreading misinformation about a "Body Count Recovery Centre" in Bali, claiming women pay $13,000 to "reset" their sexual history. These claims are entirely false.
The footage used in these viral videos actually depicts Melukat, a sacred water purification ceremony rooted in Balinese Hinduism. Practiced for over 5,000 years, the term comes from the ancient Javanese word lukat, meaning to cleanse, purify, or let go. The ritual is designed to simultaneously wash away negative energies (mala), stress, emotional burdens, nightmares, and past traumas from the body, mind, and soul.
Locals and religious practitioners have sharply criticized the modern "body count" framing, calling it a cheap attempt to chase clicks. Melukat is a deeply sacred practice aimed at achieving inner peace and self-cleaning, not a transactional tool to erase karma.
